We got a little lost this week during our Get Out! segment at Goodman Creek in the Willamette National Forest. We definitely took the trail less traveled. But who doesn’t need to get lost every once in awhile? 😉 I certainly have no regrets.
The trail for Goodman Creek Trail starts at the Hardesty Trailhead as well, and you’ll find a parking lot for it right off of Highway 58. Our GPS took us on the wrong road twice before we had to just look it up, and we read a review somewhere that the parking lot was actually just off the Highway 58… As you can see, we made our own trail right down next to the creek. We had the whole valley to ourselves and the lighting was pure magic.
We thought we were on the trail until we made our way down to the creek bed. There was not a footprint in sight, and we were too entranced by the view we had stumbled upon to turn back now. So we trudged through the mud, hopping over the creek bed in some parts and back over it in others, trying to find the easiest way to continue onward. We climbed the the steep side of the cliff finally to a rolling meadow, where our dog Bane was literally frolicking. As I look at these photos I can clearly remember the smell of wet grass and the sounds of the flying insects and the bubbling of the creek. I think I found a new happy place. Can’t you just imagine reading or journaling on one of these tree stumps? I never wanted to leave. We called it quits when the sun finally set, though we hadn’t hiked as much as we had intended to due to us taking the wrong path. On our way back to the parking lot we stumbled on what was actually the trail just to the left of where we had gone. Guess we just have to come back another day! I hope you all have had the opportunity to Get Out! recently! What adventures have you all been up to?
See where else we have explored in the Get Out! series!
